I have never been a big drinker, which people are like what?! I do drink, but I am difficult, yes. But I do enjoy a good tipple. I like to make drinking an occasion. I have never been the person in the corner guzzling on the white lightning cider, or the special brew, I want a drink to taste good! Obviously, I do get dizzy, take off my shoes and dance like the best of them but then isn’t that what everyone does?
Anyway! here are my favourite drinks to make at home! (use as much or as little alcohol as you see fit, this only for guidelines!)
Frozen Cherry Mojitos
1 big bag frozen or fresh pitted cherries
3 cups crushed ice, plus extra to serve if desired
1/2 cup packed fresh mint leaves
1 cup white rum
Lime wedges and fresh cherries, for garnish
Place the frozen cherries, ice, mint, rum, in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into chilled glasses and top with crushed ice. Garnish with lime wedges and cherries.
Elderflower Champagne Cocktail
Fill a tumbler with ice. Fill three-quarters of the glass with dry champagne or cava. Add thinly sliced cucumber and fresh mint. Top off with St-Germain, or elderflower cordial! Yum!
Pink Grapefruit Margaritas
1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
½ cup fresh squeezed lime juice (about 4 limes)
1 cup triple sec orange liqueur
3 cups Ice
1 cup silver tequila
1 lime cut in wedges, optional salt.
If you prefer to rim the glasses take a lime wedge and rim, then dip in salt, if you do not like a salted rim sprinkle a touch of salt in each glass, the salt really brings out the flavour.
Combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice, triple sec and ice in a blender. Pour into a large pitcher (or just keep it in the blender) and pour in the tequila, stir. (I personally just added it all to the blender- I like slushy, that is totally up to you)
2 quarts of fresh orange juice
2-liter bottle of ginger ale1/2 cup orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)
Fresh strawberries, sliced or halved depending on size
1 (750 ml) bottle chilled dry Champagne or sparkling wine
All together in a bowl!
Just pour in some gin, some strawberries, basil and ice and top up with ginger ale!
Jack and coke slushies
Jack, Coke, Ice, Blender, DONE.
Bourbon Chocolate Milkshake
Couple shots of bourbon per person, scoops of vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup (or milkshake powder) BLEND. YUM
If you want good drinks, well cocktails and you’re not at home it’s best to go somewhere that specialises in cocktails and has exceptional bartenders. Usually if you do a bit of googling on bar awards in your area, you will get an idea of where to go.
